Car Repairs

You would think when you have a car that is still fairly new, that repairs and costs would be pretty minor. Nope, Wrong. I just received the phone call from the dealership with the list of replacements and costs for each one. Sometimes you just think they're trying to screw you, but I kept getting a heads up that eventually the breaks would need replacing. Along with the fluids and other such things. But it seems as though the time has come to throw all my money into the car. Check out this list. Can we say OUCH!

Timing Belt and Tensioner $725
Anti Freeze Flush $110
Battery Corrosion $48
Replacement of three belts which power the power steering, alternator and the a/c $170
Front Breaks $250
Wiper blades $45

Total $1450

Walking to work on a sunny, breezy, clear day, PRICELESS

Dear Alli,
How many miles does your car have on it? There are no circumstances I know of where the timing belt should be replaced before the 60,000 mile mark, and some cars don't need a replacement until 105,000 miles. Information on your exact car's replacement schedule can be found at the bottom of this page.

The anti-freeze flush quote sounds high and you can probably get it done at Jiffy Lube or some service station for a lot less. There's nothing complicated about the procedure, so there's no good reason to have it done at the dealership.

WTF is 'Battery Corrosion'? That reeks of a BS charge. If the service manager says that your battery terminals are corroded, don't get the service done. You can clean corroded terminals with a little vinegar and baking soda and an old toothbrush.

The brake job sounds high and the wiper blades are easy to replace yourself. With the other belts, make sure you get the old ones returned to you to verify that they were really worn and that they're not just replacing them because, hey, if we're taking the engine apart, we might as well replace the belts...

Yours truly,
Mr. X

Thanks for all the advice Nick, I'm still looking into everything before going ahead with any repairs.

girl, you gotta go somwhere else! bryan wants to know who the fuck you went to cuz he said that it would be cheaper for you to drive out here and have him do it all :) but seriously, $45 for wiper blades, they are ripping you the hell off, you can get them done at pep boys for like $20. go somewhere else!!!!! (btw, bryan said the timing belt is so easy that even alex can replace it for you, but we all know that's not true...... ;) )

HAHA, did you just say that Alex could replace the timing belt? How funny are you? Don't worry your pretty little heads out there in Phoenix, I'm not getting the wiper blades there, I'm doing those myself. And the rest of the stuff is getting taken care of for a little less. Cars are expensive, and you gotta keep them up and running.
